Caroline has been raised by her father in a nature reserve on the outskirts of Portland. They inhabit an elaborate cave, wash in a creek and tend a garden. Once a week, they go to the city to buy groceries and attend church. When one small mistake draws the attention of authorities, their relocation is only a brief respite in their flight from a world that can’t understand them.
