Alone and adrift, Hans Olofson's only desire is to visit the grave of a missionary in the hills of Zambia. Olofson is captivated by Africa's beauty, and decides to stay. Taking responsibility for the farm he manages, he battles a hostile environment and a resistant workforce. Near mental collapse, it becomes clear that years in a foreign land do not breed understanding of its people.
